What is the real deal behind steroids? It is a very hotly contested and controversial issue. Most people, I am sure, do not know the truth behind steroids and most likely would not be able to distinguish myths from scientific fact.
The most recent and incredibly public addressing of this issue has been the congressional hearings for baseball legend Roger Clemens. He was accused of being injected with human growth hormone (HGH) and lying to a grand jury about it, but that is a different issue.

Human Growth Hormone (HGH) is a perfect example of myth being accepted as scientific fact. It is generally believed that HGH will make you drastically bigger and stronger, which is why professional sports have banned the substance. However, studies show that HGH benefits a relative few, including the elderly, some AIDS and tuberculosis patients, and people whose natural production of the hormone is severely diminished, either from a pituitary tumor or a birth defect.
